The Big Project!
Assignment:
You were very successful in your Canterbury Tales comic strip. The story was accurate, the creativity and the attention to detail was superb, and the humor was. . . well. . .LOL. For this unit your major project will be to select one Act and create a comic strip/storyboard for it.
Criteria:
- It will have at least 24 cells or PowerPoint slides or however you choose to do it.
- In color (that way the blood stands out)
- Fill each cell appropriately
- Make sure the act is completely covered. Obviously, not word for word.
- You may also pick a theme or other characters to tell the tale of Macbeth. Meaning, you can use the Lord of the Rings characters, Yo Gabba Gabba, or whatever. You may also keep it traditional. Your choice. Enjoy the freedom.
Due:
On the first day of presentations. As of now, I have no idea. I will update soon.
Mini Projects
Each week you will get two to three mini assignments. All three are due the following Monday. Ignore the journals and every thing esle in your portfolio. You are on your own path.
Week One
Eulogy- Write a eulogy (a statement of praise for someone’s life after they’re dead—often read at funerals and memorials) for Banquo, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Macduff's family or King Duncan (pick one). Include details about his life that you learned in the play and additional information you make up to give the piece more depth. It can be funny or serious. The trick: it must be at least 12-16 lines length and typed in iambic pentameter. Which means each line is exactly 12 syallabes length. This isn't a sonnet so rhyming isn't essential just the syllables. Two days.
Movie Review- Write a short movie review for Macbeth. Opening with a summary paragraph of the film that is no more then five sentences. The discuss the film's qualities and flaws. Discuss the filming, acting, overall storyline, Mr. Price, and whatever else you can think of. Be critical and use examples. End with an overall rating.
Criteria:
- No cover page. Just put the heading at the top
- 1-2 pages typed and double spaced
- Times New Roman 12pt font
Week Two
Acceptance Speech - Write a short acceptance speech for Malcolm as he takes the throne Have
him reassure the country, recall the tragedies, ask for the thanes to come back, etc. The trick: it must be at least 12-16 lines length and typed in iambic pentameter. Which means each line is exactly 12 syallabes length. This isn't a sonnet so rhyming isn't essential just the syllables.
Themes - Create an original image that illustrates a theme in “Macbeth.” Theme can be an image of one or more characters doing something, a place in the film, etc. Include a short description (as a caption) of the illustration and how it depicts the theme (3-4 sentences per caption). Themes include:
• Ambition
• Appearance vs. Reality
• Atmosphere
• Disorder
• Trust and Betrayal
• Fear
• Greed and Power
• Excuses
• Visions
• Desperation
• Good and Evil
• Guilt
• The Supernatural
On the back or on a seperate sheet of paper and in at least 50 words, explain how your theme is revealed in your image.
Week Three
Where in the World is Macbeth now: Shakespeare success has been attributed to the fact that this storylines transcend time and place. You can make easily make connections at a personal level and a global level. So Tyler, let's make some connections. Look at the world around you. Where do you see the story of Macbeth? Is it in songs, films, personal moments of your life, in the government of our country or other countries, or wherever. Find strong examples.
Criteria:
Cover page
1.5-2 pages typed and double spaced
Times New Roman 12pt font
Visual Tour of Scotland in the 11th Century: In at least 10-15 slides, show me the history of Scotland during the time the play takes place.
Show me:
- Power shifts (who's in charge)
- Important places mentioned in the play (Dunsinane, Inverness, Fife, Scone, Birnam Wood)
- Map of the area
- Important historical events and cultural aspects of the time period http://www.historyworld.net/wrldhis/PlainTextHistories.asp?historyid=ac69 http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0777806.html

Week Four
Witches’ Next Adventure - Write a two page double spaced short story to tell about the witches’ next ‘adventure.’ Who will they trick next? How? What character flaw will they find to use
against their target? What will happen to the victim? You can stay within the story or go to modern times.
OR
Rewrite a Scene from a different characters perspective. Pick a scene (not a whole act) This can be a new character or one of the previously established ones. Maybe you want to focus more on Lady Macbeth after King Duncan is found murdered and Macbeth won't shut up. You can throw in a solliquies and other characters. Whatever. Just pick a scene and go. Type in play format. Heading at the top and at least two pages.
You may need extra time to finish some of the other projects and writing assignments so I will leave you with only one assignment this week.
Week Five
Now, we usually go into overtime for the scenes. I will leave this week blank so you can focus on your big project.
Can I has a page? -ganse
